Day One of the 2017 Midwest High Times Cannabis Cup kicked off with a bang on Saturday.
Even dark clouds and the possibility of rain—which thankfully never really came—couldn’t stop us from lighting up and throwing down at the Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan.
All of Michigan’s finest bud was on display.
And colorful free dabs kept the crowd delighted throughout the day.
But bud was the main star of the event, with green as far as the eye could see.
Huge crowds of people lined up to be the first inside, hoping to sample all the delicious Cannabis Cup entries. And the sold-out VIP section way beyond poppin’.
Magical Butter hosted its Top Cannabis Chef Competition—with celebrity judges rating marijuana-infused dishes, and the winning judges moving on to Sunday’s final rounds.
We found an attendee wandering around with this cute lil guy, and we just had to stop him to take a pic—because #YOLO (is that still a thing?) and #PotPorn.
This man had an insanely large joint, which he had rolled himself using ~lots~ of weed, plus six or seven different waxes mixed in just to up the ante. We won’t lie, after a full day of smoking, and maybe one edible too many, a single hit off this joint definitely fucked me up. [Editor’s Note: Sativa Von Teese’s tolerance is not representative of the entire High Times staff, so if you think “High Times can’t handle their shit,” then, you’re totes mcgotes wrong. Most of our staff can out-smoke the best of ’em.]
We could smell this Purple OG from three booths away and just had to get a photo.
And the love was everywhere—pot love, people love. This stony couple got engaged in our Super VIP Lounge, with a public proposal that made our hearts melt.
50 Cent performed around 8 p.m., drawing a huge a crowd to the Main Stage.
Wu Tang performed after 50 Cent, and High Times’ very own senior cultivation editor Danny Danko caught up with Killah Priest backstage before their show.
The show’s headliner, Nelly, was a little late, so to pass the time, we literally threw money (and edibles and lots of other goodies) out to the crowd. No one seemed to mind the wait.
Finally, all of High Times’ dreams [Editor’s Note: AKA Sativa Von Teese’s dreams] came true, when Nelly took the stage to sing all of his classics. Joined by his brother, City Spud, they put on a show-stopping performance—the perfect way to end the first day of the Midwest Cup.
Don’t miss Day Two! We’re going strong today at the Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan. Get your tickets at the door (they’re cheaper!) or online HERE.
